Royal Enfield Motorcycles
The Royal Enfield Bullet started life in the 1933 and
since then Royal Enfield motorcycles have been in continuous
production - making them the longest running motorcycle
brand in the world.
The then British firm, Royal Enfield manufactured the
Enfield Bullet 500 from 1949 to 1962. The Bullet, with its
350 cc and later 500 cc engine was the motorcycle used by
the Indian armed forces.
From 1958 the Enfield Bullet 500 was produced in Chennai (formerly Madras). The UK factory in Redditch, Worcestershire closed in 1970.
The bike sold very well in India and eventually it was
exported from India to many countries, including Great
Britain. The export version included some improvements such
as a better front brake.
In 1994 Royal Enfield became part of the Eicher engineering
group, manufacturer of trucks and tractors.
